This site used to have a watermill close to the River Don, this old layout would have given 3-5m head. The new intake location further upstream was chosen to maximise the energy output of the scheme by increasing the available head to 23m.
Plastic culvert and HDPE (High Density Polyeurethane) are being used. The HDPE pipes are welded together on-site.
The electricity generated will be used to power two households on the estate with excess electricity sold to the grid.
